Volunteering

  • Points of Light Foundation's Principles of Excellence for Corporate Volunteer Programs
Acknowledge that a company's community service involvement and its employee volunteer efforts contribute to the achievement of its business goals, commit to establish, support and promote an employee volunteer program that encourages the involvement of every employee and treat it like any other core business function and target community service efforts at serious social problems in the community.

  • Types of Corporate Volunteer Programs and Their Benefits
Public-spirited Canadian companies are embracing an expanded definition of corporate philosophy --- one that is inclusive of families and socially interactive. Nowhere is this more evident than in the trend to encourage and support paid volunteer leave time for employees involved in community service. Whether programs are formal or informal, structured or flexible, staff-driven or management-directed, clearly everyone is a winner.

  • Volunteer Match
VolunteerMatch is the nonprofit, online service that helps interested volunteers get involved with community service organizations throughout the United States. Volunteers enter their ZIP code on the VolunteerMatch web site to quickly find local volunteer opportunities matching individual interests and schedules. This simple, effective service has already generated hundreds of thousands of volunteer referrals nationwide.

  • Npower
NPower joined together with Microsoft to form the Microsoft & NPower National Partnership. As a result of this partnership, by the end of 2003 there will be 13 communities where nonprofits will have access to hands-on technology support services crafted and priced to meet their needs through a local NPower program. Currently, there are independent NPower affiliates in Atlanta, California's Bay Area, Indiana, Michigan, New York, and Portland, Oregon. Together, the different NPower programs make up the NPower Network.
